How do I create a Wifi connection?
If you have a wireless router setup then you can skip the following and go straight to 'Connecting'. For a peer-to-peer (computer to PDA) connection do the following
- First make sure peer-to-peer is enabled on your computer by going to control panel -> add/remove programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components.
- Select (Make sure you DO NOT uncheck/check the button, leave as is) 'Network Services'.
- Click the Details button.
- Make sure the Peer-to-Peer item is selected. If it is not, check the button next to it. Click OK. Click Next.
- Close all.
- Right click on the wireless icon in task bar and select 'View Available Wireless Networks'
- On left hand side click on 'Change Advanced Settings'
- Click on Wireless Networks Tab.
- In Preferred Networks, click Add
- Put a name in SSID example 'MY_NETWORK'
- Uncheck 'The key is provided for me automatically' and type in a network key i.e. a sort of password and Confirm.
- Check 'This is a computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) network; wireless access points are not used'
- OK all
- If your computer is already connected with a Wifi connection then disconnect.
- From your PDA search for peer-to-peer connections. You should now see 'MY_NETWORK'. If you do not then add it and enter the same network key. Go to your computer and connect to MY_NETWORK. In a few seconds it should connect automatically
- Type the key and you should be connected.
Connecting
- Launch PDA Controller on both computer and PDA.
- Go to the wireless icon in task bar again. Right click and select 'Status'.Click on the Support Tab, and note the IP Address.
- On the PDA use the file -> Edit address on PDAController. Type the ip address.
- From your computer got to PDA Controller -> Options and click Profiles.
- Type a new Profile name e.g. TCP
- You can leave the device ip empty, Save.
- Next to the connect button, click on the down arrow and select the new profile. E.g.TCP.
- From PDA go File -> Start/Stop.
- If the device does not connect then please check your firewall.

Why do I get the message ‘failed to connect’ on my pda? You get
this error when you are not connected properly to the desktop PC. If you are using
Microsoft AvtiveSync to synchronise with the device, then check that ActiveSync
is working properly and has turned green. If you want to connect from the device
then you need to know the hostname of the PC you are connecting from. If you do
not know this then simply connect from the PC at least once. For Symbian UIQ devices
you can only connect from the device. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR DEVICE IS PROPERLY CONNECTED
TO YOUR DESKTOP COMPUTER WITH YOUR DEVICE MANAGER SOFTWARE I.E. ACTIVESYNC OR PC
SUITE. It is also important that firewalls are informed not to block the software
when asked or prompted.
